Supercapacitor Marine Energy Storage

Marine power,
silent and certain.

KYMA Marine Power designs, manufactures and installs supercapacitor-based energy storage for the global hybrid maritime market — onboard the vessel and at the dock. One cell technology, built around safety, lifetime and six-minute charging, across refit, newbuild and commercial fleets.

The Portfolio

Two products, one cell technology

Both share supercapacitor cells, liquid-cooled enclosures and silicon-carbide conversion — packaged for two points in the vessel's electrical architecture.

Onboard Storage

KYMA VirtualGen

The diesel generator, without the diesel.

Sitting on the primary DC bus between propulsion and hotel load, VirtualGen delivers the power profile of an auxiliary generator — silently, instantly, and without heat or vibration.

  • Silent running — full hotel load for 4–12 hours at anchor
  • Peak shaving — absorbs load spikes off the bus
  • Blackout protection — seamless backup to critical systems
  • Load levelling — constant near-optimal engine RPM

Dockside Storage

KYMA ShoreLink

Cold-ironing where the dock can't keep up.

Between marina shore power and the onboard system, ShoreLink buffers a low-rated feed and delivers full peak power on demand, with silicon-carbide conversion across all common dockside voltages and frequencies.

  • Power mismatch — continuous draw in, peak power out
  • Voltage & frequency — handles 400V/50Hz to 480V/60Hz
  • Marina constraint — time-shifts demand off the feeder
  • Six-minute fast charge at the berth

The Technology Edge

Why supercapacitor, not lithium-ion

Energy density is the one specification where supercapacitor loses — and the only one the maritime customer is not buying. The ones that matter favour KYMA decisively — and at end of life the cells are fully recyclable, with no rare-earth or heavy-metal cathode to dispose of.

The Market

Three segments, one platform

The same supercapacitor stack serves three compounding markets across the complete European maritime sector — from the Mediterranean and Adriatic clusters to the Atlantic seaboard, the North Sea and the Baltic.

01

Yacht Refit ≥30m

More than 90 European refit events a year, with hybrid penetration rising across the full size spectrum as decarbonisation pressure and resale economics price in hybrid capability.

02

Yacht Newbuild 70m+

Engagement with the leading Northern and Southern European yards, where hybrid-electric is now the default specification for forthcoming deliveries across the order book.

03

Commercial Shipping

Ferries, cruise, RoRo, offshore supply vessels and harbor craft across all European waters, driven by converging EU regulation — FuelEU, EU ETS and AFIR cold-ironing.
